Frequently Asked Questions
How many Laser Sessions will I require?
On average you will need between 8-10 Sessions spaced at every 8 Weeks for body and every 4 Weeks for Facial Areas. This can vary depending on numerous factors such skin type, hair type and hormone levels.
Can Laser Hair Removal treat ALL Hair Types?
The Laser Machine can treat all hair types apart from WHITE hair types. The SMARTDiode lasers rely on a pigment to absorb light energy and convert it into heat energy. As white hair has no colour pigment, it is unable to work effectively.
How does Laser Hair Removal work?
Laser hair removal works by destroying the root of the hair follicle. During treatment, flashes of light are distributed over the skin and absorbed by the melanin in the hair follicle. The energy from the laser heats up and damages the hair follicle, successfully stunting the cells that stimulate regrowth.
Does Laser Hair Removal hurt?
The age-old question that everyone wants to know - does laser hair removal hurt? You’ll be pleased to know that, in short, the SMARTDiode is not an overly painful treatment! Most patients receiving the treatment describe the sensation as nothing more than a light pinching, but this obviously will depend on individual sensitivity and the area being treated. This is due to the high-frequency SHR technology used in our SMARTDiode devices.
Will Laser Hair Removal permanently remove the hair?
Can I have Laser Hair Removal whilst pregnant?
No, you cannot have Laser Hair Removal whilst pregnant or whilst breast-feeding.
Are there side effects to Laser Hair Removal?
Common side effects include redness, swelling, and temporary skin irritation, but these usually subside within a few hours. More serious side effects, such as burns or pigmentation changes, are very rare when following accurate pre and post treatment care.
What should I do Before and After a Laser Hair Removal Treatment?
Pre-Care: To ensure the best results and minimise any potential side effects, proper pre-care is essential. Shave the treatment area at least 12 hours before your appointment, as the laser targets hair follicles below the surface. On the day of your session, wear loose-fitting clothes to avoid irritation and stay comfortable. It's important to avoid alcohol or smoking the night before and the day of your treatment. Drink at least 1 liter of water the day before and on the day of your appointment to help your body regulate its temperature. Arriving early will allow you time to relax before the procedure. Avoid applying any products, including lotions or deodorants, to the treatment area—keep the skin clean and dry. Additionally, refrain from exercising beforehand, and avoid sun exposure, sunbeds, or self-tanning products for at least 2 weeks prior to your session to protect your skin.
Post Care: After your treatment, it's crucial to protect your skin and aid in the healing process. Avoid exposing the treated area to UV light or applying self-tanning products for at least 1 week to prevent hyperpigmentation. Refrain from using heat treatments such as spas, saunas, or steam rooms for at least 72 hours. Be gentle with your skin—avoid scrubbing or applying pressure for 3-4 days to allow proper recovery. Similarly, hot baths, showers, and activities involving chlorine, such as swimming, should be avoided for 48 hours. Exercise and applying makeup or perfumed products to the treated area are also discouraged during this period. Lastly, refrain from waxing, tweezing, or threading for the entire duration of your treatment course, and avoid scratching if blistering or crusting occurs to prevent scarring.
Are there any side effects?
The area treated is frozen by Cryotherapy. This kills the localised cells in the area which cause them to shrivel and die. The treated area may go darker over a few weeks, but will return to normal pigmented skin in about 6 weeks.
How long are Cryotherapy treatments?
The duration of the treatment time will depend on the surface area and the thickness of the tissue being treated. Upon the clinical evaluation of the depth of the area, I will choose an application time from 1 to 30 seconds.
How much will the treatment cost?
The cost of the treatment will depend on the size of the area.
How safe is Cryotherapy?
Is the treatment painful?
